Simrad remote-service case study

Simrad IDS Display 12 Russian language installed remotely on a yacht in Monaco

A real international case: the yacht’s Simrad system originally had no Russian interface. Russian language support was installed remotely in Monaco while both displays remained in place.

Quick answer

What was done in Monaco?

The yacht’s Simrad system did not have a Russian interface before the service. We remotely installed Russian/Ukrainian language support while both displays remained installed at the helm. No display removal or international shipping was required.

What to know

How the remote service was completed

The yacht stayed in Monaco and the electronics remained installed throughout the work. We first confirmed the exact Simrad platform and software version, then remotely installed the required language support and verified the Russian interface on the completed system.

01

Identify the installed Simrad system

We first confirmed the hardware and software platform: Simrad IDS Display 12 running software version 22.3. Before our service, Russian was not available as the active interface language. The system was then prepared for the remote language installation.

02

Prepare the remote session

From the captain’s side, the session required a phone for communication, access to the installed displays and following the instructions during the work.

03

Install Russian language support remotely

With the displays still installed on the yacht, we remotely added the Russian/Ukrainian language support to the Simrad system. The captain did not need to remove either display or send the equipment to another country.

04

Verify the result

After the installation, the About screen showed the Russian Ukrainian language package and the system settings allowed Russian to be selected as the active interface language. Both displays were then checked with the Russian interface working normally.

No removal. No shipping. This case demonstrates the main advantage of a compatible remote workflow for a yacht that is already abroad.

Common questions

Before you continue

Quick answers about this topic.

Did the Simrad displays have to be removed from the yacht?

No. The displays stayed installed in the helm console throughout the entire process, from the original standard configuration through the completed Russian-language installation.

What did the captain need for the remote session?

A phone for communication, access to the installed displays and the ability to follow the service instructions during the session.

Was the service limited to Monaco?

No. Monaco is the location of this case. Remote availability depends on the exact device and software path rather than the country alone.

Can multiple Simrad displays be handled?

The installation should be assessed as a system. This yacht had two displays at the helm, so the exact models, software and configuration were considered together.
